Character Study: Pearl, What it means to be free
This is another Steven Universe character study. Today i'm going to do Pearl! I think that after i'm done with all the Steven Universe characters, I might move on to a different series that I have also seen. So if you dislike Steven Universe, I got more Stuff coming your way, don't worry. Anyway, like I said, today i'm going to do Pearl. Let's get started!
Summary
At first, Pearl only lived to be of Pink Diamond's service. Whatever Pink Diamond told her to do, she did. Pink Diamond wanted her own planet and colony to control. So the other diamonds gave her a small planet called Earth. She eventually realized though, that there was life on this planet. And what they were doing to it was plucking that life out of the ground to get more gem resources. Pink Diamond started a rebellion under a secret name. Rose Quartz. And Pearl joined in to, what else was she supposed to do? Along the way, she recruited many gems and even some close friends. A fusion named Garnet, and a blacksmith called Bismuth. The war went on for too long though. And they needed to end it. Pearl and Pink Diamond faked Rose Quartz shattering her, so Pink could live under a secret name. Her last orders to Pearl were to never tell anyone who she actually was. And Pearl kept that secret for years. Rose Quartz eventually fell in love with a human named Greg. And together they had a baby. But Rose had to sacrifice herself to make Steven, and eventually she was gone. Pink Diamond was Pearl's whole life. Pink said she could be free, but Pearl never really let go. So we are going to look into Pearl's story and see what we can put together.
Pearl eventually cracked the secret, and let it all spill out. All the gems finally knew it. And after looking back into normal episodes, I finally get why Pearl was so paranoid when talking about Rose/Pink. After she told everyone the whole story though, She flew down her own path of recovery. It may have taken a while, but Pearl is finding time to become more of an independent being. After saving the universe, she may as well save herself. Anyway, Pearl made some human friends, and even got into a little trouble sometimes. She was always so perfect and elegant, but in one episode she runs from the cops and vandalizes with some teenagers. I'm not saying you should do that stuff, but sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone in order to be a better person. Lots of people relate to Pearl on how they never really felt free. Maybe they were in a toxic relationship or something else like that. But it's okay to step out and become your own person.
In Steven Universe, I think that Pearl's story is definitely one of my favorites. Her road to recovery was so fun to watch, and she really changed a lot. Anyway, thanks for reading today's article. Bye!
