I just finished Avatar: The Last Airbender!!
Avatar has been a show I have wanted to watch for a long time. And when I finally found it on Netflix I had access to the whole show! I was so exited, so I binged it all in one go. Right now I'm just gonna list some highlights and things that really made it stand out from other cartoons.
1. The Animation
Before I watched Avatar I thought it was an anime. And when I heard it wasn't I was very surprised. It aired on Nickelodeon all the way back in 2001, so I guess it's an american TV show.
The animation in Avatar is very fluid and lose and nothing on screen ever stays still. (like my little brother) It keeps the world alive and active and I think that's part of the reason why it looks so good.
2. The Plot
The Story in Avatar is what hooks most people including myself. The plot in it is just so complex, and when we finally get the answers to on of the mysteries it's so satisfying.
Also the world building and setting in it makes it feel like you are actually traveling to Basing Se with the main cast and it seems so much more alive than how other hows would have done that.
3. The Characters
The characters, where do I even begin. The characters in Avatar are probably some of the most likable characters in a cartoon iv'e ever seen. To tackle the main cast i'm going to have some subcategories for all of them.
Aang
Aang is extremely complex for a main character and you can always feel for him like the other characters. He's playful yet funny at times, and you can tell there is a lot of pressure on him since he has 1 year to master all 4 elements.
Katara
Sorry to Katara fans out there but I really don't like her. I'm not gonna go into it to much but still.
At first I really didn't know what to thing of her but after Zuko joined Team Avatar I got triggered. She already disrespects my girl Toph. But ZUKO!!! No no no no she is not gonna go hate on Zuko!!!
I get things were hard for her since she didn't usually have any parents to talk to, so she was the parental figure for Sokka, but sorry I just don't like her.
Sokka
At first Sokka was your typical comedy relief guy. It seems as if he had Murphy's law. But has the series went on he also grew and change with the rest of the characters. And we saw sides of him that we don't usually get to see with comedy reliefs.
Toph
As soon as Toph joined Team Avatar in book 2, I automatically knew that she was the best. One thing that really makes her stand out is the representation. Toph is blind and she doesn't see her disability as a weakness, but more of a strength. In her first appearance we saw a 2 year old blind girl beat up a pack of old men. Toph is strong and is my favorite character, hands down.
Zuko
Zuko has the best redemption ark that I have ever seen. Sorry Steven Universe but Zuko has a better redemption than Peridot or Jasper do. I like that he slowly got better as the series progressed and he wasn't just redeemed in one season. Plus I may have cried when he reunited with Uncle Iroh again at the end. Also it was so relieving when he finally took off that ugly ponytail!!!
Anyway that's just what I think of the main characters because there was just so much I had to say about them.
4. The Bending
Here's a little fact: Did you know each element is based off a different type of martial art? Water bending is Tai Chi Chuan. Earth bending is Hung Gar Guen Fire bending is Kung Fu. And air bending is Ba Gua. I think that it's really cool that tiny details like that just make the bending seem so much more realistic than if they just waved there arms around aimlessly.
Anyway those are just some highlights for Avatar: The Last Airbender. I think it really changed children's media because it tackled serious topics that other shows didn't at the time. It it definitely is one of the most memorable shows Iv'e ever watched and I really recommend you to watch it if you've been living under a rock
I think I'm gonna go watch The Legend Of Korra witch is a spin off series of Avatar.
Anyway iv'e made this way too long and goodbye!
yay
